Passco Awarded For Biomedical Waste Disposal In PMC And PCMC

The Passco Environmental Solutions has won this year’s Vasundhara award for best environmental practices. Passco collects, segregates and disposes a total of 1,500 kg bio medical waste in the city on a daily basis.

Passco has 3,500 bio-medical waste generators registered with them, both in Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation areas. The waste is collected daily from more than 400 collection points. There are nine dedicated collection vehicles equipped with electronic weighing and bar code reading facility.

Hinjewadi Traffic: Solution In Sight

The Katraj-Dehu Road by-pass, which is a part of National Highway 4, is perhaps a rare example in the world of a high-speed highway which is feeder-connector to an Expressway (Pune-Mumbai) that has a traffic signal on it. The roads are part of India’s much hyped ‘golden-quadrilateral’ national road network.

“More than 1.2 lakh vehicles pass through the junction every day. The traffic in the peak hours much above the stipulated capacity of the roads. There are also some spot specific problems that need to be sorted out. A team comprising members from all the stake-holder bodies is working on it. Disallowing right turns at the junction would definitely increase the distance one has to travel, but it will no doubt reduce travel time as traffic congestion will be avoided.” – Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Pune.

Pune Property Tax: PMC Rakes In Rs 114 crore

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected property tax amounting to Rs 114 crore in the last 28 days. The collection for May 2010 so far stands at Rs 71 crore more than the tax collection for May 2009.
