PCMC Extends Reach Of Biometric Attendance System

PUNE: Encouraged by the results of the trial project, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will start biometric attendance system in all its offices to cut down absenteeism and improve work efficiency.
Biometric attendance machines are devices used to register employees’ time of entering and leaving the office using their thumb impressions.
Sudhakar Deshmukh, assistant commissioner and chief of administration department, PCMC, said, “The system was introduced on a trial basis seven months back. And we can say the results are good. The civic administration has now taken a decision to implement it on a large scale bringing 7,500 employees in its ambit.”
Explaining the features of the machine, the computer department official said, “It is a light weight machine and easy to carry. It can record thumb impressions and information about 1500 people at a time.
These machines are attached to the computers through internet. The concerned officials can know the number of employees who are on duty at any given time. The device has a battery back-up so it can be taken to different areas to record attendance.”
