PCMC To Shift Electricity Poles For Laying Water Pipeline

PUNE: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will conduct a survey to identify the electricity poles, along the Pune-Mumbai expressway, which need to be shifted for laying a water pipeline from the Pavana dam to Ravet.
Around 15 lakh people living in the Pimpri Chinchwad township are fully dependent for water supply on the water released from Pavana dam into the Pavana river. The PCMC draws water from the Pavana river, near the bund in Ravet, and purifies it to provide as drinking water to its residents.
The PCMC has decided to lay a water pipeline from Pavana dam to Sector 23 to bring the dam water directly to its water purification plants. This project is being implemented under the Union government’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme.
The PCMC has completed the laying of the pipeline within the municipal limits. The laying of pipeline outside the municipal limits had been delayed due to opposition from farmers, who do not want to part with their land.
