PCMC To Acquire Forest Land For Garbage Depot

The twin townships’ administration has agreed to plant 25,000 trees and pay Rs 2.5 cr to the forest dept for a 56-acre plot. However, villagers are up in arms against the move.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will allegedly plant 25,000 trees and pay Rs 2.63 crore to the forest department for acquiring land owned by them. PCMC plans to acquire 22.80 hectares of forest department land at Punawale for setting up a plant for garbage and other waste disposal.
Once the acquisition process is in place, PCMC would be setting up waste processing and management facilities at ward number 24 at Punavale. But before giving permission to PCMC for acquiring the land, the forest department laid down a condition that municipal corporation would have to plant 25,000 trees.
