PCMC Says Install Water Meters Before July 31

PUNE: Install water meters by July 31 or pay thrice the water tax this year, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is warning residents who, despite several extensions given for installation of water meters, have still not complied with the directives.
Four years back, the PCMC had started installing water meters free of cost for domestic water connections. So far, it has installed around 1.10 lakh water meters. Last year, consumers who had failed to get water meters installed were fined Rs 1,404 alongwith the flat rate of water tax of Rs 1,404 for the year 2009-10.
PCMC has clarified that in case people have already paid the fine, the amount would be adjusted in this year’s water bill, for which the citizens have to apply for water meters and submit the requisite documents before July 31.
